The most common side effects of Nexium include abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. These side effects are usually mild and subside as the body adjusts to the drug. If you experience any of these symptoms or one of the following, talk to your doctor immediately about discontinuing Nexium. Side effects that may be bothersome are stomach upset, heartburn, nausea, or a rash. Nexal works by blocking the action of an enzyme called H. pylori, which is responsible for the development of ulcers and other chronic gastric complications in adults. NSAIDs, including Nexium, are associated with stomach irritation and ulcers. Use of these NSAIDs with Nexal may increase the risk of developing stomach bleeding.
